Two centuries of nudity in art – in pictures

The naked human form is as controversial as it is unremarkable. From the vulgar to the valorised, from portraiture to pornography, the relationship between art and the body has undergone fundamental shifts alongside the great political, social and economic changes of the past 200 years. Nude: art from the Tate collection at the Art Gallery of New South Wales is a new exhibition of more than 100 works from the Tate in London, exploring the relationship between art and nudity from the 1790s to the present day. It includes works by Picasso, Degas, Matisse, Cindy Sherman, Louise Bourgeois, Ron Mueck and more, as well as the first showing outside Europe of Auguste Rodin’s sculpture The Kiss

Nude: art from the Tate collection is showing at the Art Gallery of NSW from 4 November 2016
